Card Payments

Village Stores

We accept most major debit cards and credit cards, including Master Card, Visa, Switch, Delta, Solo and American Express.

Currently we process transactions using a swipe-terminal and chip-and-pin. When the opportunity arises we hope to move to contactless transaction processing.

When customers buy items for £10 or over we make no charge if they pay using a credit or debit card. If the purchase is for less than £10 we do make a charge of 50p to cover the transaction costs the processing bank applies to us. These figures are reviewed from time-to-time, but we have no plans to change at the moment.

As a courtesy we can offer cash back when a customer makes a purchase from us using a debit or credit card. At our discretion, the amount of cash back can often be up to £30. The policy of charging 50p as described above will still apply - the £10 cut-off is for the amount of the purchase, rather than the purchase-and-cashback amount.

It is our policy to take great care of customers' confidential details. Debit and credit card details are stored securely with our other accounting records, and are destroyed after 6 years. Our accounting records in respect of credit and debit card transactions are paper-based: there is no danger details could be obtained by computer hackers breaking into our systems.

We do not take card payments over the telephone, or through the internet.

Payment by cheque, supported by a valid banker's card if appropriate, is still accepted at our shops.
